The Winter Season
The Winter Season is spent by most nobles in Ptah For young Sederans, it marks the end of their Gadabout season, and for the clans, it presents an opportunity to come together and dance away the winter months.
Most noble families of standing will keep residences in Ptah specifically for The Season (although also useful for any other trips to the capital). Those without residences will gladly be put up by the High Queen's court, or else find lodging amongst family and friends.
The highlight of The Season is the Midwinter Ball held at the Palace, but usually the rest of the period is marked by smaller balls hosted by various clans for any purpose they can find. It is meant to be a time of forging bonds, but admittedly, many clans also use it as an opportunity to show off.
During The Season, a large majority of Commoners will make the journey to Ptah as well, especially those who work in agriculture or such seasonal roles. It is a long, hard, and cold season, and often food becomes scarce and expensive.
To combat the risk of Commoners starving or freezing the death, the Emperor encourages them to come to Ptah, where charity can be found and food and warmth are plentiful. By decree, it is the one time of year that no serf may be forced to stay and work his or her land.
For those unable to afford their own lodging, the Maidenhouse offers simple charity in exchange for good works.
